The Pianoman Scholars:
First of all: congratulations to Samuel Yetman, a PianoMan Scholar, who, following his memorable score of 145 out of a maximum 150 on his Grade 8 ABSRM piano examination in November 2010 has now completed his first sixth form year at Wells Cathedral School. Other Pianoman scholars with newly gained Grade 8 Distinctions are Melanie Overy who this Easter received an exemplary 142/150 despite difficult personal circumstances at the time, Lucy Thraves (138), Joseph Kirkwood (137), Sam Wreford (136), and most recently Michael Cullen with a terrific 141! WELL DONE ALL!
The first year for the newly enhanced Pianoman Scholarship Series was truly memorable with our very first residential courses taking place at Charterhouse School in the summer of 2011. Since then I have been assisted by the – the young Russian concert pianists VeronikaIlinskaya and Maria Nemtsova on our courses at Dartington Hall (February 2012), Prior Park College in Bath (April 2012), York University (August 2012) and at Tonbridge School (December 2012 . In April, following the Bath residential, we were joined by the brilliantly talented young soprano Natasha Agerwal for our annual concert at The Bluthner Piano Centre before our sponsors Mr&Mrs Harvey McGrath.
We now look forward to our forthcoming courses at Manchester University (2-6 April 2013) and Canterbury Christ Church University (24-28 August 2013).
A recent innovation has been our Pianoman Experience Days in which we have been generously assisted in our outreach to state school children by the more privilege Public Schools – notably Kings Canterbury, Durham School, Kings Macclesfield, Godolphin Salisbury, Merchant Taylors Girls School Crosby, Prior Park College Bath, Framlingham College Suffolk, Castle Court School Wimborne and Haileybury School Hertford. To each of these were invited young pianists attending 25 local state schools for three hour fun workshops resulting in a further 15 or so scholarship awards. 2013 Experience Days are already planned for Haileybury (once again!) and Wellingborough School
