The Piano Studio celebrates 10 years
Richard Meyrick and his students toasted The Piano Studio at The Bluthner Piano Centre on Thursday 5 June 2008 to mark a highly successful 10 years in The City and and in Mayfair.
Roger Willson of The Bluthner Piano Centre generously hosted the entertaining evening concert for The Piano Studio pupils, their families and friends. As everyone gathered, pianists warmed up several of the superb Bluthner grand pianos.
Richard welcomed all who have piano lessons at The Studio and opened the concert with Chopin's Polonaise in A flat ("Heroic") Op 53.
Eleven of Richard's students and two pianoMan scholars performed for the enthusiastic audience.
"I congratulate all of you who have the courage to play tonight," Richard said. "I know how hard it is to perform in concert. Tonight, we have pianists of all levels of experience who learn the piano at The Piano Studio. They all deserve a warm round of applause."
Robert Clarke played Mozart's "Andante" (extract) from Sonata KV545 and Andrew Park performed the Theme from Swan Lake. Two pieces by Beethoven followed - John D'Arcy played Adagio cantabile (from "Pathetique" Sonata Op 13) and Nick Metcalfe played Bagatelle in G minor Op 119 No 1.
A duet was next by sister and brother - Lizzie Rodeck and David Rampton, who performed JC Bach's Rondo from Sonata in F Op 18 No 6.
Chopin followed. Amy Leonard played Nocturne in F minor Op 55 No 1 and Harry Anderson played Nocturne in D flat Op 27 No 2.
David Medhurst introduced the audience to something quite different by Erik Satie - Introduction and Four Pieces from "Sports et Divertissements". Richard suggested that everyone follow the description in the programme which included "Can you hear the rabbit singing?" and the colonel golfer who "addresses the ball: his club flies into pieces."
Christopher Edwards performed Scarlatti's Sonata in F K525 L188. He was followed on the stage by the two pianoMan scholars. Lisa Britcher played Duetto No 2 by JS Bach and Nancy Wang played Impromptu in E flat D 899 by Schubert.
Richard thanked Roger Willson for hosting the evening at The Bluthner Piano Centre and encouraged his students to play at the next concert evening in early December 2008.
